Mr. Mailman, where are you?

Waiting patiently in the shrubbery, to surprise my oh so-not-favourite-mailcarrier.  Think he can see me?

Vacation away from home

Sawyer's enjoying a little vacation away from mommy & daddy this weekend.  He's privy to a beautiful cottage with a lake view,  skippering and lifeguarding on a boat and later, sunning on the dock with MJ.

One of his favorite pursuits is to sneak up to Lincoln's (gorgeous Newfoundlander) dish and devour his gourmet dinner.  On the other hand, maybe his most favorite activity is to stand near Auntie Jaye's treat cupboard and politely beg for those awesome carob oreo treats!  Sawyer....you're spoiled.

Sawyer's Summer Vacation

Last month, Sawyer brought his parents & sister to his favourite cottage destination in the Haliburtons. Ah yes, that boy knows a good thing when he finds it.

Sawyer was cordially invited to Auntie J's & Uncle J's cottage.  He was surrounded by his favourite people: LG, GG, Gramma E, and of course his parents & Mel.

His days were filled exploring his new surroundings.  Lots of sniffing, wadding in water, chasing ducks (oops, sorry Gramma E but I couldn't help myself!)  "They tried to teach me to swim but NO WAY,  I'm a mountain dog not a duck", said  Sawyer.  Can't blame us for trying though.

Sawyer experience his first motor boat ride and boy was he hooked.  Everyday, he cautiously sauntered down the dock and eagerly awaited Auntie J to rev up the motor.  The best part was standing guard at the front of the boat, or lying down near his Auntie while the sound of the motor lulled him to sleep.

Sawyer and his family  were grateful for the invitation to partake in this getaway, far from the city's fast pace.  We all came home with fond memories....

Kissing the asphalt

Today, Sawyer enjoyed a pleasant walk with a friend and her 3 sons, through a little forested gem smack-dab in suburbia. Although we didn't walk far, Sawyer was exhausted and fell asleep in the trunk of my car.

Upon our return home, I promptly opened the hatch to take him in the house to continue his nap. During a moment of inattention (on my part), Sawyer made an attempt to jump out but instead, proceeded to fall head over heels onto the asphalt! It was actually comical to see his lengthy puppy body twist & turn as he's heading for the asphalt. It all happened so quickly and I just couldn't respond to this plight in a timely manner.

I was in shock for a moment then snapped back to it. What is Sawyer's reaction?? Playing dead on the driveway! Yes, he proceeds to lie on the driveway without moving! Ok, I was starting to panic at this point. Had he broken a limb? or worse, his neck? was he paralyzed? I shook his paw and it was limp....*OMG*, my heart was pounding...my thoughts were racing worrying about vet fees ($$). Since coaxing him to move (with treats) was unsuccessful, I decided to lift this 46+ pound dog and carry him up the porch stairs (he wasn't helping me one bit). Made it up the stairs wondering if my back would hold up. I gently placed him down on the porch to open the front door and what does the little monkey do?? Casually gets up and saunters in the front door and promptly plops himself on the kitchen floor. Flipping little bugger!! (Honestly, I do still love him but he sure gave me a scare!) Moral of that story....take shorter walks lady!
